"It would affect the entire region".

In the call, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman encouraged the president's son-in-law and national security adviser John Bolton, who was also on the line, to maintain the U.S. -Saudi alliance, according to people with knowledge of the call.

"It'll take us probably a handful more weeks before we have enough evidence to actually put those sanctions in place, but I think we'll be able to get there", he said, adding that President Donald Trump had vowed accountability for all involved in the "heinous crime".

Besides providing "enormous opportunities" for American "wealth generation", the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia remains a "solid partner" in the USA effort to "change" Iran's behavior, Pompeo said.

The journalist's family told the Post in response: "Jamal Khashoggi was not a member of the Muslim Brotherhood".

Thousands of labourers and hundreds of engineers worked on the project , Gujarat's Chief Minister Vijay Rupani said. Indian air force planes showered flower petals on the statue during its unveiling.

Khashoggi's family have denounced any suggestion the journalist participated in Brotherhood activities.

Earlier this month, press accounts quoted a Saudi official as saying the body of Jamal Khashoggi had been given to a local collaborator in Turkey to take care of, but no Saudi official has addressed its whereabouts on record.

After the statement was released, a Turkish official told the Washington Post -- for which Khashoggi was a contributor -- that authorities are investigating a theory the body was destroyed in acid, either in the consulate or the Saudi consul's nearby residence. "To claim otherwise would be ridiculous".

His body has not yet been found, but Turkey, the United States and Saudi Arabia have all agreed that he was killed at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on 2 October. That was seven days after the dissident disappeared in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul and long before the crown prince acknowledged that Saudi agents killed him.

But, as Saudi Arabia faces a torrent of global condemnation over the murder of the royal insider-turned-critic, the location of his body remains a mystery.

Officials in the Trump administration have discussed proposals like urging King Salman, the 82-year-old father of the crown prince, to appoint a strong prime minister or other senior official to help oversee day-to-day governance or foreign policy, according to three officials familiar with the deliberations.
