Timberwolves star Butler reportedly requests trade

He informed Timberwolves president and coach Tom Thibodeau of the request during a meeting Tuesday in Los Angeles, sources said.

Wiggins' brother tweeted "Hallelujah" in response to today's report of Butler's trade request.

The addition of Jimmy Butler would give the Spurs a formidable trio of All-NBA players in their prime and one of the most talented rosters in the league. Now, the all-star guard is on his way out of town. Butler has given the Timberwolves a list of teams that could interest him.

Butler would like to be traded to Knicks, Nets, Clippers or HEAT so he can be the MAN in a big city.

"At 6'8", Butler is one of the best two-way wings in the National Basketball Association.

In free agency next summer, Butler can secure a five-year deal worth around $190 million with his prior team or a four-year deal worth around $141 million with a new team.

One possible concern they face is trying to accommodate Butler's $19.84 million salary for the upcoming campaign, given that they're already set to pay a luxury tax this season. If Butler and his representatives had gone to Thibodeau with this decision earlier in the offseason, he already may have been traded elsewhere, either in a second draft night deal or in July.

The Timberwolves were scheduled to meet with Butler this week to "have honest conversations" about his future with the team.

Butler, who turned 29 last week, averaged 22.2 points, 5.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists for Minnesota last season.
