Cuomo holds off challenge from Nixon in NY Democratic governor's race

A campaign mailer accusing NY gubernatorial candidate Cynthia Nixon of anti-Semitism was drafted and approved by people connected with incumbent Gov. Andrew Cuomo's campaign team.

Mr. Cuomo held a massive 41-point lead over Ms. Nixon in a Siena College poll released this week.

Cuomo's campaign dismissed her as inexperienced and touted the governor's work to push back against President Donald Trump.

His victory comes despite several missteps, including a widely condemned mailer that questioned Nixon's support for Jewish people. At their only debate, as the two sparred over the deterioration of New York's subways under the governor's tenure, Cuomo barked: "Can you stop interrupting?" at Nixon, who snapped back: "Can you stop lying?"

However, as outrage built over Cuomo's watery denial - his campaign pinned responsibility for the mailer on an anonymous "constituency outreach" volunteer - it emerged on Wednesday that the mailer was drafted by Cuomo's former special assistant David Lobl, now volunteering with his re-election campaign, and approved by Larry Schwartz, the governor's former secretary.

Cuomo, seeking a third term, will face Republican Marcus Molinaro, the current Duchess County Executive, in the November general election. Early in the campaign, Nixon said she would stand aside if she lost the Democratic primary, but it remains to be seen whether the party can remove her name from the ballot.

'I want to thank all of the #TeamCynthia volunteers, supporters, and voters who dedicated their time to championing the progressive message of our campaign. Teachers on strike would cause school closures, sanitation workers on the streets would result in a health crisis, and the shutting down of the MTA would cripple New York City's subway system.

You just had the biggest blessing of your life with a child, and in two weeks you have attacked three women-one at Fashion Week. I hate when some people come at me like, 'Why you coming at kids for.' I'm my mother's baby".

T.I. is so high on Cynthia Nixon's political platform - at least the marijuana parts of it - and vows she's got his vote for governor, even though he doesn't know who she is. and can't possibly vote for her.

Cuomo appeared at a polling station in suburban Mount Kisco with his girlfriend, Sandra Lee.

But the actress-turned-activist isn't running to liberalize Cuomo ー she's running to replace him.

New York's primary election was underway on Thursday when a late-breaking endorsement from Cardi B came into play.

Other important races are on the ballot, including the candidates for NY attorney general.

Cuomo has said that he had no knowledge of the mailer and said through a spokeswoman that the language was "inappropriate".
