President Mamnoon Hussain has summoned the maiden session today.

Ayaz Sadiq, speaker of the previous National Assembly, presided over the 15th Parliament's session and administered oath to the new leaders in the 342-member lower house.

The NA speaker will be elected first after which he will conduct the election of the deputy speaker.

He then administered oath to the MNAs-elect following which they signed the roll of members in alphabetical order.

The PTI has nominated Asad Qaisar for speaker, while opposition has named Syed Khurshid Shah of the PPP as the joint opposition candidate for the post.

The Punjab government on Saturday confirmed that former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu has been invited for the swearing-in ceremony of Pakistan " s Prime Minister in-waiting Imran Khan on August 18 in Islamabad.

The results will be announced on August 17, while the oath-taking of the elected Prime Minister will be done on August 18.

Earlier, India's high commissioner in Pakistan Ajay Bisaria called on Khan and congratulated him on his victory.

Khan's Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party emerged victorious in the July 25 elections, the country's second-ever democratic transition of power, but fell short of an outright majority.

After the oath of MNAs, the elections of the speaker and deputy speaker of the National Assembly will be held on August 15.
