Aretha Franklin in serious condition; hospitalized in Detroit

The Detroit Historical Society reports that Franklin's family lived in Detroit shortly after she was born in 1942.

The news emerged Sunday evening, and many are eagerly awaiting further corroborating reports.

Franklin has sold more than 75 million records, making her one of the world's best-selling artists.

Aretha was reportedly diagnosed with cancer in 2010 and ordered to rest by doctors in March. Last February, Aretha announced that 2017 would be her previous year "in concert".

The 76-year-old soul legend - who last performed at the Elton John AIDS Foundation party in NY in November - is said to be at her home in Detroit, where her loved ones are understood to have gathered to say their goodbyes.

I feel very, very enriched and satisfied with respect to where my career came from and where it is now'.
