11 killed, almost 70 wounded in Chicago weekend shootings

Police have said violent crime has declined overall in Chicago. The shootings occurred mostly in the South and West sides, with some appearing random while others resulting from gang violence, reports ABC7 Chicago.

"Getting the trust in the community to prevent crime from happening in the first place, so if you have people in the community that can't work with the police that don't trust they have leadership that's reliable, they're not going to be reporting on crime and preventing it in the first place". A 19-year-old was shot in the back of the head and pronounced dead at the scene.

"Detectives are working around the clock to investigate the incidents, build a timeline of events and identify any shooter", said Waller.

Of the wounded who reported an age, the oldest victim was 62 and the youngest was 11, CNN reported. However, he said there have been no arrests made in connection with any violence from this weekend. Somebody knows who did it.

McCarthy plans to run next February against Emanuel, who fired McCarthy in 2015 after the release of dashcam video showing a white police officer kill a black teenager by shooting him 16 times. They hold the mayor accountable.

Chicago, a city dominated by the Democratic Party for decades, maintains some of the United States' strictest gun laws. "I never hear people saying these individuals out here in the streets need to stop pulling the trigger. They get a pass from everybody, and they shouldn't", he said. We are all supposed to be on the same side.

"We need everyone to come to the table with less talk and more action", Johnson said.

Eddie Johnson, superintendent of the Chicago Police Department, said that the authorities needed to toughen their approach to gun offenders and gun owners.

Oil dented by rising tide of supply
The net imports averaged 6.44 million barrels per day last week, up by 1.35 million barrels per day from the previous week. Concerns about demand from China also increased Friday as state oil major Sinopec cut its purchases of USA crude.

"I promise we will not be defeated", Waller said. The people who were shot weren't cooperating with investigators, and the circumstances of the shooting weren't immediately known.

"This is a predominantly black school, in a neighborhood that is about half black, and yet you don't see that kind of violence here because everybody has a job", LaRaviere said.

But the weekend's grim violence underscored that while the city has witnessed a positive trend, several neighborhoods remain volatile.

Fifty-three people have been shot, ten fatally, since 5 p.m. Friday.

"Some of these instances were targeted and were related to gang conflicts in those areas".

A criminological analysis - based on Federal Bureau of Investigation crime statistics - of the nation's 30 largest cities ranks Chicago as having 2017's fourth-highest murder rate at 24.7 per 100,000; behind Baltimore (57.2) Detroit (40.8), and Memphis (28.4).

Waller touted that shootings in 2018 were down from previous year.

June marked 15 straight months of fewer killings and shootings, police said.
