George Clooney has been rushed to hospital after his scooter collided with a vehicle in Sardinia, local media report.

A local paper said the star's injuries were not serious, but that he was taken to the emergency room. According to Clooney, he was going about 65 miles per hour, nothing ridiculous, when a auto cut him off, hitting him head-on.

According to CNN, Clooney "smashed the windshield with his head and flew 30 feet from the auto".

Italian media report the accident happened in Sardinia where the United States actor is filming his latest TV series, Catch-22.

Clooney broke a rib in a motorcycle accident in New Jersey in 2008, while his then-girlfriend Sarah Larson suffered a broken foot. A photo from the scene shows the car's smashed windshield.

The two were married in 2014 at the Aman Canal Grande resort in Venice, Italy. The Clooney Center for Justice is working to help the separated families.
