Daniel Cormier brutally knocks out Stipe Miocic to become double UFC champion

LAS VEGAS - Former UFC heavyweight champion Brock Lesnar returned to the company on Saturday, at least as a spectator, before challenging new UFC heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, who defeated Stipe Miocic in the main event of UFC 226.

It seems all but confirmed that UFC is now headed to a UFC heavyweight title fight between Cormier and Lesnar, which would be a big time draw on PPV. The finish came at the 4:33 mark after Miocic - the longest-reigning champion in UFC heavyweight history - crumpled from the shot.

Daniel "DC" Cormier became the first man to hold both the UFC Heavyweight and Light Heavyweight Champion simultaneously.

Cormier and Stipe Miocic are getting it done Saturday night.

Regardless of his accomplishments, former champion Jon Jones has fired back recently at the notion that Cormier would be put into the category as the best ever after failing to beat him on two separate occasions. "I'm coming you for, motherf*cker!"

The 11-fight event kicks off with two fights streaming live on UFC Fight Pass at 7 p.m. ET.

Cormier has been such a dominant force with his grappling throughout the course of his career that it's hard to see how that doesn't become a huge factor in this fight.

"Every person I fight is bigger than me", Cormier said. That's why, despite holding the UFC's light heavyweight championship, he moved up to challenge heavyweight champion Stipe Miocic.

"Yeah, you're drunk, but everybody's drunk", Cormier said in response to Lesnar's physicality.

But Cormier provided all the fireworks necessary with his demolition of Miocic, who had held the heavyweight belt for over two years. He has successfully defended the heavyweight strap in three consecutive bouts.

The show capped the UFC's annual International Fight Week in early July in its hometown. However, the bout was pulled from the card after Holloway experienced concussion symptoms during fight week. Francis Ngannou will trade leather with Derrick Lewis. I also think just mixing in the takedown and just having that threat of the takedown, can shut down a fighter's offense.
