The saga of the missing first lady appears set to extend at least another week and possibly even into a fifth week after an announcement by her spokesperson, Stephanie Grisham, on Sunday afternoon.
President Donald Trump's wife, Melania Trump, will skip this week's G7 summit in Quebec and does not plan to attend the planned June 12 summit in Singapore with North Korea, the White House said on Sunday. "But the reasons behind her lack of public appearances are less interesting to me than the fact that we're so used to freakish and out-of-bounds behavior from this administration that something like a missing first lady barely makes the grade for news coverage".
And comedian and actor Jim Carrey used his paintbrush to depict a possible fate for the first lady, amid rumors of a rift with her husband, depicting her undergoing the brainwashing process from the Stanley Kubrick movie A Clockwork Orange.
The first lady also dashed off a tweet.
On Thursday night, she tweeted: "I'm here at the White House with my family, feeling great, & working hard on behalf of children & the American people!".
But CNN reported that Melania opted to spend the weekend at the White House.
But, Huffington Post compared Melania's tweet with previous tweets from the President, and they pointed out that "working overtime" is one of the President's favorite phrases.
Facebook to remove 'trending' news stories section following years of controversy
According to the Pew Research Center, 44 percent of US adults get some or all of their news through Facebook . Zuckerberg met prominent rightwing leaders at the company's headquarters in an attempt at damage control.
The blog Showbiz411 quoted a source as saying the reason the first lady hasn't been seen in public in 21 days is because her mother, Amalija Knavs, is very ill. "She is doing great".
OK, but that still does't explain why she can't go outside.
She spent a week in the hospital recovering at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
Not everyone, though, believed that Mrs. Trump had actually written the tweet herself.
However, the first lady's office knocked down the report as 'false'.
Melania's absence led to many people making widespread rumours and conspiracy theories. The White House traditionally hosts a big Fourth of July celebration.
