New video game called "Active Shooter"

A video game allowing players to play as an "active shooter" is drawing backlash from parents.

They are expressing their anger at video game makers for launching a game that simulates the players to become active shooters to terrorize a school.

Valve and Acid's developer, Revived Games, did not reply to requests for comment on Tuesday.

The game's developer, Acid, insists that it's all fun and games and is not to be taken seriously.

"Active Shooter's" developer, Revived Games, said in a disclaimer at the beginning of the game's demo that it believes violence belongs in video games and not the real world.

Acid, which appears to be based out of Russian Federation, said the game was originally meant to be a "SWAT simulator", but it later chose to add more gameplay elements, including the option to be the shooter or a civilian.

Parents of victims of the Parkland, Fla., high school shooting have since expressed outrage at the pending launch of the game.

Sleeping In On Weekends Might Prevent Early Death
People who get too little sleep are at a significantly greater risk of dying early compared to those who are well-rested. But channeling your inner cat and sleeping too much can be just as bad for your health , studies have found.

Ms Aldhadeff earlier said she fears games like Active Shooter would only trivialise and further desensitise others to the very-real effects of violence.

The game-entitled Active Shooter-will be available to purchase via online games store Steam starting on June 6.

An online petition demanding the cancellation of the game's release has attracted approximately 9,000 signatures in recent days, according to the Herald.

The game is to be released about four months after a gunman killed 17 students and staff members at Marjory Stoneman Douglas and less than a month after 10 more were killed in a school shooting in Texas.

"It is horrendous. Why would anybody think it's a good idea to market something violent like that, and be completely insensitive to the deaths of so many children?" the spokeswoman added. "We've had others, this is simply unacceptable", he said.

Video games have made for a controversial topic for a long time, largely because of the many diverse themes they cover.

As controversy over the game began to rise, the developer wrote a note on Steam saying "it has written to Valve and will likely remove the shooters role in this game by the release".

Thanks everyone who got behind my call Saturday to let Valve know this game is not acceptable as entertainment.
