Ed Carpenter kicking himself for missing out on Indy 500 chance

Power took the lead with five laps to go when leader Stefan Wilson was forced to make a pit stop for more fuel.

"That guy was sitting here this morning before I walked in, sitting in his firesuit next to his engineer ready to go, about 6:30 this morning", Cindric said. I couldn't imagine winning a race in front of this many people. Her highest finish in a Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race was sixth in Atlanta in 2014, and she had seven top 10s in her five full-time NASCAR seasons that were all behind the wheel of the No. 10 vehicle for Stewart-Haas Racing.

A frustrated Castroneves, who moved to Team Penske's sports vehicle team full time this season but returned to run the INDYCAR Grand Prix and Indy 500 this month, implored team owner Roger Penske to let him try again next May.

He's done it: Will Power wins the Indy500.

"I just can't believe it", he said after the race.

"Unbelievable to be the first Australian to win the 500; maybe they will recognize me down there now", smiled Power.

Internet divided over 'Yanny or Laurel' video clip
Another user tried to enlighten the masses: "If you pick up on the higher pitch it's Yanny and the lower pitch is Laurel ". Because as you may have guessed, not everyone hears the same thing when they listen to this cursed piece of audio.

Now, this time, we're going to have a good chat tonight and I'm sure share a beer. Defending champion Takuma Sato, the first Japanese driver to win, crashed into the struggling vehicle of James Davison from behind, taking both cars off the track.

The race featured seven crashes, including one which put an end to Danica Patrick's career. Patrick announced months ago that she would retire after the Indy 500, the second half of the "Danica Double". She left the 500-mile race bit shy of 200 miles. She lost control of the vehicle and hit hard in the outside wall, sliding back down across the track and into the inside barrier. Her vehicle spun wildly, crashed into a pair of walls, and was soon being hauled off the track. She had her best finish of third in the race in 2009. It was her first race back at Indy since 2011 and her second finish outside the top 10. She was told at the time "don't date the driver", so she married him instead (kidding, but not really - the full story on how they met can be seen here). It's both of them.

"The first restart I had behind [Power] I had a good run, I think I could have passed him, and I was like "I'll just sit here and save fuel" and work on him on the exchange". "It just seemed to come around and seemed pretty late off the corner". ("Please Roger, can I come back", he pleaded with team owner Penske in his television interview.) Fellow Brazilian Tony Kanaan, another former victor who had the lead early in the afternoon, later lost control in turn two and also exited the race.

Bourdais crashed a year after missing the race because of a harrowing, high-speed accident during qualifying. The Chevys were the fastest cars in the field and Team Penske had four strong chances to win.

"It was a good day from a championship perspective but we didn't have enough to win".

"It's frustrating. auto was good", the Brazilian said.
