Teacher, student injured in IN school shooting

Jeremy Seaman, the older brother of Jason Seaman, the teacher who intervened in Friday morning's school shooting at Noblesville West Middle School, said his brother was shot three times and was undergoing surgery Friday.

The students ran to the back of the classroom to hide, and that's when the science teacher bravely tackled the student and swatted the gun away from him, possibly saving others from getting injured. A 29-year-old former football player at Southern Illinois University, Seaman is a science teacher and football coach at the middle school, according to the IndyStar.

According to WTTV-TV (Indianapolis), several students described how Mr. Seaman rushed into action when the shooter opened fire.

The suspect is believed to have acted alone and was taken into custody, he said. "We are also however aware of a second threat that's been made at Nobleville High School". Also it was not known if the victim is a student or adult. "When the safety of the kids is at hand, it's not surprising to me that he was going to do what he had to do".

Sign of the times - school shootings are so normalized that *this* is what a parent of kids at the MIDDLE school in IN had to say about the shooting there: "This happens in high school, not here".

Among the anxious parents who rushed to get their kids was Erica Higgins, who told WTHR-TV that she learned of the shooting from a relative who called her at home. The students were in class when the suspect asked to be excused. As CNN reports, there are conflicting reports about how many people were injured in the shooting.

"He said, 'I'm OK, please come get me.' That was probably 20 minutes after it happened", Morris said.

Indiana State Police Superintendent Doug Carter said he had briefed Gov. Eric Holcomb as Holcomb returned from Europe.

"I'd say it's something I'd see from him, he would do this type of thing, he's a really good guy", he said. "To all the students, you are all wonderful and I thank you for your support".

Jennifer Morris, who was among the anxious parents who rushed to get their kids, appeared slightly dazed and said she was at work when her 14-year-old son sent a text message about the shooting, stunning her. Parents are picking up their children in the high school auditorium.
