A farewell event was organised for the 68-year-old with former and current Arsenal players and fans in attendance.
Arsenal's January record signing, Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, opened the scoring in the 14th minute at The Emirates, racing into the area to guide home Alexandre Lacazette's cross with the outside of his right foot.
The Gunners were ultimately playing for pride as they prepared to give Arsene Wenger the send-off he deserved after announcing last month he would leave the club after 22-years.
Wenger was given a guard of honour from both teams and the match officials before kickoff and was his name resonated around the stadiun throughout the match as the home fans roared at the top of their voices in their complimentary red "Merci Arsene" T-shirts. Even as the French tactician remained mum for 15 seconds on the turf, fans cheered by chanting "one Arsene Wenger" in a chorus.
Flanked by his entire playing staff, the man who was instrumental behind the (only) "Invincibles" in the English Premier League (EPL), proceeded to deliver an emotional farewell speech - after an honorary lap around the field. "It's the end of a long story for me at Arsenal".
"Thank you for having me for such a long time, I know that is not easy but above all I am like you - I am an Arsenal fan", he said.
McCain Doesn't Want Trump at Funeral
The Times cites McCain's "rocky relationship" with the president as the reason Trump is reportedly not invited. Joe Lieberman of CT , have been visiting McCain at his Arizona ranch and a nearby hospital in recent weeks.
'I hope he finds a new challenge too, because I know he is still hungry to win competitions. But above all, I'm like you - I'm an Arsenal fan. That means this is more than just watching football, it's a way of life. We care, we worry, we are desperate, but when you come here, at the theatre of dreams, we realise what it means.
"I do not want to put any pressure on the club to choose this guy or this guy and give already a handicap to the guy who comes in because he has been chosen or it wasn't my decision - I am nothing to do with that".
"This team has a special quality".
"Legendary games and players, including an "Invincible" achievement that allows supporters to argue they've seen the greatest team English football has ever produced". "Thank you all for being such an important part of my life".
The result also saw the North London club guarantee a sixth place finish, as they sit six points above the Clarets with a game in hand.
