While the organization will remain Boy Scouts of America, the older youth program for 11 to 17 years olds, known as "Boy Scouts", will become "Scouts BSA" in 2019. For over twenty-five years, girls have been a part of BSA's co-ed Venturing, Exploring, and Sea Scouts programs.
The umbrella organization will keep its name of Boy Scouts of America, or BSA.
Georgia state Sen. Michael Williams, a Republican candidate for governor, said Thursday that the Boy Scouts of America have given into "left-wing social engineers" in dropping the "Boy" from its youth program.
But it all changed for her in October when Boy Scouts of America (BSA) announced it was opening up its Cub Scout program to girls.
Williams joins the many voices criticizing the Boy Scouts' decision, including Marine veteran Johnny Jones, who addressed the controversy on "Fox & Friends", saying, "We live in a culture where you can't ask kids to be tough".
India's manufacturing sector growth rises marginally in April
New orders edged up to 55.7 from 55.6 in April as new export orders climbed to the highest since March 2011, the data showed. Japan's manufacturing sector expanded at a quickened pace during April amid improved growth rates in output and new orders.
For the last 108 years, the Boy Scouts of America has been preparing young lads for life, but starting next year, that mission will be extended to include young ladies.
Boy Scouts of America made a major announcement this week that the name of one of their staple programs is changing.
"I remember seeing one of the women talk and thinking, 'Wow, I want to be just like her.' These experiences were some of the many ways in which Girl Scouts has shaped my outlook on the STEM fields: that a girl can do STEM, and she can do it well". "Old Scout oath 'Be Prepared.' New oath 'Be Pretty'". (This is true, however the requirements are also lower for older women and drill sergeants expect recruits to significantly exceed these minimum expectations.) "Perhaps separate Scouting programs for boys and girls isn't so insane after all".
So far, more than 3,000 girls have joined roughly 170 Cub Scout packs participating in the first phase of the new policy, and the pace will intensify this summer under a nationwide multimedia recruitment campaign titled "Scout Me In". The organization, founded two years after Boy Scouts, now claims a membership of about 1.8 million. In Jan. 2017, they announced they would accept transgender members.
"They are trying to open this up, praying to God that this is going to save their organization from diminishing and the only thing that's going to save it from diminishing is for them to get unit leaders that will develop an outdoor program and get them out there camping", Sam Snoddy said. "We both need to increase our membership numbers".
It's too early to determine what impact the aggressive BSA effort to recruit girls will have on the Girl Scouts, an organization best known for its lucrative annual cookie sales.
