While Congress president Rahul Gandhi attacked Prime Minister Narendra Modi to kickstart his "Save the Constitution" campaign on Monday, BJP chief Amit Shah tore into Gandhi's narrative, accusing the Congress of trying to save the Gandhi dynasty, than India Constitution. He accused the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government of bringing constitutional values under threat. Gandhi said if given 15 minutes to speak his voice on various issues, including the Nirav Modi banking scam, PM Modi would "run away". "This is what he had said not me", Gandhi quipped prompting his supporters to chant Narendra Modi murdabad. He said this because he believes that they did not want the rule of government but want the rule of the dynasty. He also said that the PM was trying to divide the country in the name of caste and religion by weakening the country's constitution and constitutional institutions.
Seen as the party's effort to reach out to the community ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the campaign launch is expected to be attended by former prime minister Manmohan Singh, party general secretary Ghulam Nabi Azad, its senior leaders Mallikarjun Kharge, Sushil Kumar Shinde among others. The ruling party also said that the BJP-Congress fight was all about "democracy vs dynasty" and that in the end democracy will triumph and the dynasty fail. "But today, people of RSS ideology are being placed in these institutions".
Lekhi "thanked" Rajya Sabha Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu for rejecting the Congress's notice for impeachment of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and said the Opposition party's attempt was an act of "blasphemy" towards the Constitution. "In 2019, Indians will tell Narendra Modi their Mann Ki Baat", he said.
