Area locations to celebrate National Record Store Day


In the back parking lot, from 11 a.m. -3 p.m., you'll find art by Yoko Molotov, Ben Sears, Steven Bowman, Cameron del Rosario, Dylan Chadwick, Blake Sims, David Soards and the Louisville Cartoonist Society; and live music by Tycoon$ of Teen, Pleasures of the Flesh, Doctor Zero and Corey James and Tyler Martin.

Record Store Day was conceived in 2007 at a gathering of independent record store owners and employees as a way to celebrate and spread the word about the unique culture surrounding almost 1400 independently owned record stores in the U.S. and thousands of similar stores internationally.

"The main goal of RSD is to get new people into record shops". Despite the original Eastside records closing in 2010 and the Ghost of Eastside Records changing locations, dedicated music fans have supported the small business through the decades.

"It's by far the busiest day of the year for me".

White recently told The Guardian that the resurgence of vinyl sales in the 2000s is partly "due to an insane amount of effort from Third Man Records". "Someone may not need a record that day, but they might need a new skateboard".

This recording of the band's performance in its early days, shortly after releasing its sophomore album, "Being There", features songs from its first two records as well as a few from the pre-Wilco band Uncle Tupelo.

"We have about 20,000 guitars in stock at the House of Guitars", said Armand Schaubroeck, House of Guitars owner. Record Store Day takes place internationally, so if you're looking for somewhere outside of Arizona, there are plenty of shops all over the world that will be participating.

"Obviously the industry has changed, but for one day the sheer excitement of the old Monday mornings is about to be recreated".

Ella Fitzgerald's Ella Live at Zardi's will get a special release for Record Store Day. The event will also feature a record fair with 23 stalls with the Community Centre's cafe serving refreshments throughout the day. Owner, Mark Carey, realising Limerick would be without a record store after HMV's departure made a decision to add one to his instrument store. This year they plan to go all out and are inviting some of Bangkok's hippest bands for their Record Store Day celebrations.

With so many great titles being released on the day we have very carefully each picked just one of our top titles being released. "The interesting thing will be the size of the queue".

This year has seen RSD face criticism for clogging up the vinyl market with a plethora of unwanted reissues and gimmicky picture discs while critics have also pointed out that some records fly off the shelves and quickly resold on online resale sites. "But I don't personally think that has ruined it".

In January, she was announced as the victor of the BBC Music Sound of 2018, setting up 2018 to be even bigger than a year ago.

"There are a few Bowie releases which will definitely be popular", says Colin. So it was time to open them up. "I had a lot of 8-tracks as a kid, and I grew up on vinyl records".
