The San Francisco 49ers are about to face an early test in the John Lynch/Kyle Shanahan era after former first-round pick and star rookie linebacker Reuben Foster was charged with felony domestic violence by the Santa Clara District Attorney.

The 24-year-old football player reportedly attacked his live-in girlfriend during a dispute at their home in Los Gatos, California, Santa Clara District Attorney's office said in a press release. The 28-year-old woman suffered bruises and a "ruptured eardrum". She told responding county sheriff's deputies and Los Gatos police that Foster had dragged her by her hair, physically threw her out of the house and punched her in the head 8 to 10 times, prosecutors said.

Foster was also charged with possession of an assault weapon, a felony, and possession of a high-capacity magazine, a misdemeanor.

San Francisco 49ers' linebacker Reuben Foster has been charged with felony domestic violence and felony possession of an assault weapon. If convicted, he could face up to 10 years and eight months in prison.

He is scheduled to be arraigned today at the Hall of Justice in San Jose.

Alleged serial killer Bruce McArthur set to appear in Toronto court
Police previously seized planters from houses McArthur worked at from around Toronto but found no remains in those planters. The 2016 interaction was the second time police spoke with McArthur in the years before he was charged with murder.

Kevin Smith, deputy district attorney in the family violence unit, said the charges "underscore how serious we take all domestic violence in this county", noting that the Foster case is just one of almost 5,000 domestic violence cases his office handles each year. "We hope this case illuminates the tragic regularity of the rest".

"We will continue to follow this serious matter", the team said in a release.

Ian Rapoport of NFL Network stated on Thursday that he expects Foster will stay away from the 49ers' facilities until the legal process progresses.

The arrest was Foster's second of the offseason; he was detained in Alabama for alleged marijuana possession in January. He was released the same night on a $2,500 bond.
