Local pride is at stake on Sunday afternoon when Real Madrid entertain neighbors, Atletico Madrid in the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

This was yet another performance that showed exactly why he has been attracting admiring glances from around Europe.

The Portuguese did not appear to be carrying an injury, which made his removal even more of a surprise.

Atletico Madrid were behind for less than five minutes before Griezmann levelled.

But Antoine Griezmann equalised on the rebound after Vitolo's shot was saved by Keylor Navas. What we have done in this decade is tremendous, Atletico fans should be proud of how their team is competing.

Exiled Catalan ex-leader Puigdemont hopes to return to Belgium
Germany's justice minister has applauded a court's decision to free Puigdemont on bail, two weeks after his arrest in Germany. Misuse of public funds carries a sentence of up to eight years in Spain , while a rebellion sentence can reach 30 years.

He was sent off in Atletico's LaLiga opener against Girona before enduring an eight-game run without a goal, his longest dry spell for the club since arriving from Real Sociedad in July 2014. A win for Atletico would distance them from Real by seven points, while Real can climb to within a point of their Madrid rivals with a win.

"When they scored, we responded immediately and we saw a game we could win with Koke and [Angel] Correa, and could have lost without [goalkeeper Jan] Oblak".

Madrid remain four points further back in third, unable to close the gap on their neighbours despite Cristiano Ronaldo volleying in his 22nd goal in the fixture in the 53rd minute.

Atletico go into the weekend nine points behind league leaders FC Barcelona and that could have grown to 12 by the time the game kicks off in Madrid, meaning that overtaking Barca in the title race looks unlikely. Los Blancos hold a 3-0 lead from the first leg in Turin and will be hot favourites to progress.
