Intel has unveiled what it says is its most powerful processor built for laptops.

The flagship Core i7-8559U also comes with Iris Plus Graphics 655 IGP with 128MB of eDRAM and 300/1200MHz clocks. They are manufactured using 14nm++ process technology delivering 41 percent more graphics performance during games.

Intel also announced a new Intel Core platform extension that brings together the benefits of its processors with Intel Optane memory, a new kind of flash memory for caching.

Intel continues talking up the power of its newest processors, and notes that the top of the line is the "8th Gen Intel Core i9-8950HK processor" which is "optimised to push the limits of performance". Specifically, Intel claims the tech will offer 3.9 times faster data transfer speeds on desktop and 4.7 times faster speeds on notebooks. Headquarters chips will still exist, but the new hexa-core processors will have the suffix "H", including the Core i7-8750H and i7-8850H. If the Optane memory gets released with the 5GHz system then the performance may increase further but the use of 7 gen system for comparison is having a slow mechanical hard drive in place of SSD.

The new generation of processors is based on Intel's 14 nanometer Coffee Lake architectures and has integrated Wi-Fi technologies enabling connections twice as fast as the current standard, according to a statement.

Intel announced a series of new Coffee Lake desktop CPUs, too.

When Intel launched Coffee Lake last summer, it led with a relatively anemic lineup of desktop and mobile parts. The Core i7-8700T is hexa-core with 12 threads, while the Core i3-8100T, i3-8300T, i5-8400T, i5-8500T, and i5-8600T are once again quad-core and hexa-core, but not hyperthreaded.

The Core i9-8950HK is a six-core chip with a base clock speed of 2.9 gigahertz, and Turbo Boost speeds up to 4.8 gigahertz on a single core, Intel said.

Intel also announced that Intel Optane memory is available for both 8th Gen Intel Core mobile and desktop platforms.

The new chips also include Intel Runtime BIOS Resilience, which Intel said is "a hardware enhancement that minimizes the risks of malicious code injection" by locking the BIOS whenever software of any kind is running.

We have already seen quite a lot 8th Generation CPUs from Intel, including many for the laptop.
