LeBron James breaks Michael Jordan's record for the most consecutive double-figure games

Jordan, the Hornets' majority owner, didn't attend Wednesday's game, which ended with the hoop-savvy Charlotte crowd standing to salute and serenade James with chants of "M-V-P!"

"I don't know. It's not like I set out to say I wanna become No. 1 in scoring 10-plus points, double digits for consecutive games or whatever and whatnot", he said. But with one of his patented two-handed dunks midway through the first quarter, James moved ahead of Jordan, whose streak stretched from 1986 to 2001.

Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James (23) shoots over the defense of New Orleans Pelicans forward Darius Miller (21) during the second half at Quicken Loans Arena.

But the double-digit scoring streak, which dates to January 5, 2007, and an eight-point game against Milwaukee in his fifth season, has turned him somewhat reflective.

James' numbers back up his claim, as he is now leading the league in minutes and among the top three in both points and assists despite a continually changing roster surrounding him.

James, widely regarded as the best player of his generation, is now No. 7 on the list of all-time points leaders in the National Basketball Association behind only Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Karl Malone, Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Wilt Chamberlain and Dirk Nowitzki.

Jordan never finished a playoff game with fewer than 10 points.

"For me any time I'm in the same breathe as the greats of this game it's just very humbling knowing where I came from", James said.

James has scored 6,163 points in postseason play, and will get a chance to build upon that total when the NBA Playoffs get underway in two weeks.

"Where I've come from, brought up 30 minutes south of here, and the statistics is always stacked up against you, and for me to be in this position today, being able to accomplish something that a lot of people thought would not happen again or be able to break a record like that..." I definitely went over and just told him how incredible that was.

"I've stayed available, obviously", James said when asked how the streak was possible.

An avid sports fan, James said all of those streaks are meaningful.
