For the 23rd straight drawing, no one matched all six Mega Millions numbers Tuesday night.

There has been only one Mega Millions victor this year, when a single ticket from Port Richey, Florida matched the winning numbers for a $451 million prize.

"Jackpot rolls are always exciting, but surpassing the $500 million mark for only the fourth time is a historic milestone", said Gordon Medenica, Mega Millions lead director and Maryland Lottery and Gaming director, in a statement.

Jackpot prize winners have the option to receive their winnings in 30 annual installments or as a one-time, lump-sum payment of $301 million. Three tickets sold in Florida matched four numbers and the Mega Ball and are worth $10,000 each.

Each Mega Millions ticket costs two dollars to purchase.

The estimated jackpot for the drawing is $458 million.

Nonetheless, a $502 million jackpot is high even by these new standards.

The $502 million is the annuity option, where a sole victor is paid over 29 years. One past jackpot victor in PA waited 100 days to claim.

Mega Millions can be played in 44 states, Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. This would be South Carolina's first ever Mega Millions jackpot win. For Powerball, it's one in roughly 292 million. Tuesday's drawing wasn't without its winners.

Lottery officials announced early Wednesday that no winning tickets were sold.
