Winter storm to hit county on first day of spring


The National weather service has issued a winter storm watch for MetroWest, including Framingham from Wednesday morning at 8 to Thursday morning at 8.

Heavy wet snow is possible with total accumulation 5-9 inches.

"Plan on hard travel conditions, including during the evening commute on Wednesday", forecasters said.

Although the calendar may say Tuesday is the first day of spring, the weather won't cooperate across a large chunk of the country.

They note that in recent years, models have trended northwest on storms' approach to produce several significant snows. This means areas in parts of the Lehigh Valley and Poconos might only receive a coating to 2 inches of snow or depending on where you are nothing at all.

The first day of Spring in northern Virginia is forecast to bring snow and sleet and Virginia Department of Transportation crews will be ready.

Peak snowfall is expected between 10 a.m. and 10 p.m. on Wednesday.

Other parts of the state are expected to experience cooler conditions Tuesday with rain.

About 2 to 3 inches ion snow is expected for the Lewistown and State College areas. Heavy wet snow combined with gusty northeast winds may result in down tree branches and limbs with possible power outages.

Tuesday night: A chance of snow before 3 a.m., then snow likely, possibly mixed with rain and sleet.

There is growing concern for more substantial snow & impacts, including travel hazards, coastal flooding & more power outages, w/ the second wave on Wednesday.

Strong northeast winds, likely requiring a wind advisory across SE MA (up to 45-55 mph). But just how much snow will fall and accumulate, and exactly who gets hit the hardest?
