"Sex & The City" Actress Announces Bid for Governor of NY

Ms Nixon could be banking on her celebrity to overcome an incumbent with long ties to the Democratic Party establishment.

She adds, "I love NY".

She will face an uphill climb, however: Cuomo has more than $30 million in his campaign account and a public-opinion poll Monday showed he remains the clear frontrunner.

Considered a potential Democratic presidential candidate for 2020, Cuomo is shored up by a bevvy of powerful supporters, but it remains unclear whether he will be badly damaged by the recent conviction of a close friend and aide for bribery.

"It was either the mayor of NY or Vladimir Putin", Cuomo said on a conference call.

Nixon is reportedly gathering a campaign team around her, including former staffers of New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio's first campaign in 2013, which Nixon was involved with.

"Half the kids in our upstate cities live below the poverty line".

'Our leaders are letting us down, ' she added as she filmed her day, walking her child to school, hanging out on the Subway.

Russian Federation could attack NY by Chemical Weapons: Nikki Haley
Four leaders issue joint statement blaming Russian Federation for the poisoning of Sergei Skripal. Britain said the Russians being expelled were undeclared intelligence officers.

"New York is where I was raised, and where I'm raising my kids", Nixon says in voice over. Nixon has worked over the years with the Alliance for Quality Education, a group heavily funded by unions that has pushed for more equitable distribution of state aid to public schools.

New York, the fourth most populous state in the United States, goes to the polls to elect a governor on November 6.

She also promises to address the widening gap between rich and poor, and advocates for healthcare, ending mass incarceration and "fixing our broken subway".

When asked earlier this month about Nixon's apparent interest in challenging him, Gov. Cuomo cracked jokes about "Russian interference". If elected, Nixon - who is a vocal opponent of President Donald Trump - would be NY state's first woman and first openly gay governor.

In 2014, the party was split between Cuomo and Teachout, but ultimately choose Cuomo after he vowed to forward progressive policies in his second term - including helping Democrats win control of the state Senate, which hasn't happened. "I've never lived anywhere else", Nixon began.

"What moves people in campaigns, is when you put money behind it, and you're all over radio and TV, and you're on the blogs", said Greenberg.

This would be Nixon's first bid at political office but she has always been an activist on political and social issues, particularly for LGBT issues and education issues.

If Nixon wins the primary and defeats the Republican challenger in November, she'll become the first woman and first openly LGBTQ governor of NY.
