Ousted Trump aide McEntee is under investigation for 'serious financial crimes'

McEntee was escorted from the White House on Monday.

McEntee previously served as an aide to Trump during his 2016 presidential campaign, and the Trump campaign announced Tuesday that he will rejoin the organization as a senior adviser for campaign operations.

Kelly, the White House chief of staff, has said in recent weeks that too many staff members were operating on interim security clearances because they could not pass Federal Bureau of Investigation background checks.

"Mr. McEntee wasn't as well known as the others, but had been a constant presence at Mr. Trump's side for the past three years", the newspaper reported. According to CNN, McEntee is now under investigation by the Department of Homeland Security for financial crimes, which are reportedly unrelated to Trump.

Part of McEntee's duties were to make sure Trump had markers to sign autographs, deliver messages to him in the White House residence and, over the weekend, ensure that the clocks in the White House residence were set at the correct time for daylight-saving time, the Journal reported.

At the very least, it appears Mr McEntee did not have a permanent security clearance and, with the ongoing criminal investigation, was unlikely to every be granted one.

This source says the charges are not Trump related.

McEntee is just the latest in a long line of Trump staffers who have left the White House in recent days. According to a press release from the Trump campaign, McEntee will re-join the Trump campaign as a senior adviser.

Mr McEntee won't be fully out of the Trump orbit, however.
