Tigers looking to get edge back in NCAA Tournament

The drought is over.

On Sunday evening, his prediction came true as Auburn earned its first NCAA Tournament berth since 2003 by being named the No. 4 seed in the Midwest Region. The victor of that game will advance to the Sweet Sixteen in Omaha, Neb., which could also feature traditional powers and top-three seeds Kansas, Duke and Michigan State in the Midwest Region. Auburn (2-3 in those games) defeated the Pride, lost to the Owls and Gators, and split with the Gamecocks.

They haven't been able to solve Virginia, though.

Auburn earned a No. 4 seed in the NCAA Tournament with a 25-7 season and an SEC Championship, but apparently the Tigers are heading to The Dance with a new head coach.

The NCAA tournament selection show begins at 6 p.m. on TBS. The Horned Frogs also made the tournament this year. Even in their 79-70 victory against SC to secure the conference regular-season title, the Tigers had to lean heavily on junior guard Bryce Brown to make up the difference from long range-the Stone Mountain, Ga., native shot 8-of-12 from beyond the arc, yet his teammates contributed just three more triples off 19 shots from long range. He did so when Chuck Person was still his associate head coach and Danjel Purifoy and Austin Wiley were two of the Tigers' top returning players. Their leading scorer is senior guard Zach Lofton who averages 19.8 ppg. Competitive enough to win the league and go to the NCAA Tournament. "All I am saying is we are just going to compete, play hard and play with heart". "If we happen to see them, we'll know a lot about them". That was the program's first NCAA Tournament victory since 1997. The Tigers will be making their 12th tournament appearance overall. That's hard to do in college basketball with the parity we have... Purifoy and Wiley were ruled out due to eligibility concerns on November 2 and have not appeared in a game this season. "All they've done all season long is win". This year marked the first time since 1999 that any of those things have happened on the Plains.

The bid is Auburn's ninth all-time, with the first of those coming in 1984. Villanova was previously a No. 1 seed in the Minneapolis Region in 2006 and in the East Region in 2015 and 2017.

Alabama players react to buzzer beater win over Texas A&M — Interviews
So Thursday's SEC Tournament game against Texas A&M was a must win if they wanted to play later into March. Alabama heads into the game with records of 17-14 straight up (SU) and 15-14-1 against the spread (ATS).

"We're very excited to be in the NCAA Tournament".

"With everything they accomplished this year, this is the greatest season in Auburn basketball history", Barkley said. "It's a great opportunity", Harper said. The latest came in the conference tournament to rival Alabama.

Auburn also lost starting center Anfernee McLemore to a season-ending ankle injury in the first of those four losses at SC on February 17 and is down to just eight scholarship players in its rotation.

"I think we are in a good spot", Jans said. If they can get the three-ball going, Clemson could go far in this tournament.

While Brown has become undoubtedly Auburn's go-to man at the perimeter, the Tigers have a few more offensive weapons at their disposal that can make or break their chances in March.
