It's the fourth trade in the past 24 hours for the Browns, who are quickly trying to turn a corner in their extended rebuilding process under new general manager John Dorsey. The Browns cut one of them and traded another right before the 2017 season.
Updated via @FieldYates and me: Browns trade Danny Shelton and a 5th round pick in "18 for the Patriots" 3rd l-round pick in "19". ESPN reporter Adam Schefter summarized the flurry of comings and goings in a tweet Saturday following the Shelton deal.
Last season, he recorded 33 tackles and one pass breakup in 14 games, where he showed his ability against the run. In his first three National Football League seasons with Cleveland he registered 128 total tackles and 1.5 sacks in 46 games played.
Serena Williams wins her comeback match
She is now healthy again, but skipped this year's Australian Open because she did not consider herself ready for the tournament. But if anyone can, Serena Williams can-maybe not in Indian Wells , but just wait until Wimbledon .
Shelton, 24, is scheduled to earn a base salary of $2.03 million in 2018.
In New England, which runs a multiple defense that often asks defensive linemen to two-gap and play the run first, Shelton's skill set should fit well.
He's a massive, space-eating defensive tackle who will provide bulk on the interior alongside Malcom Brown (320 pounds), Lawrence Guy (300 pounds), Vincent Valentine (320 pounds), and Adam Butler (300 pounds).
In addition to getting Shelton, the Patriots also added a fifth-round pick this year in the trade, giving them seven overall selections. Wilson said Mathieu would be a ideal fit in New England, as he is also capable of playing cornerback and inside linebacker in sub-packages.
