Record breaker Lionel Messi's career in numbers

Barcelona ace Lionel Messi has confessed to teammates and staff he's knackered.

La Liga championship probably gave its verdict with FC Barcelona beating Atletico Madrid thanks to another goal from Messi.

Barca manager Ernesto Valverde paid tribute to Messi.

And with the result against Atletico now settled, Messi is expected to be granted several days off to refresh.

Against Girona on February 24, the 30-year-old struck a low effort underneath the wall, catching Barcelona's derby rivals by surprise during a 6-1 win.

The Blaugrana can now turn their attention to the second leg in the last 16 of the Champions League.

Barcelona attacker Messi has managed 61 goals in 123 appearances at global level.

Lionel Messi scored the only goal against Atletico, his 600th career goal as Barcelona landed what could be the knock-out blow in this season's title race.

Panthers release veteran RB Stewart
Carolina head coach Ron Rivera confirmed that the team has released the veteran running back. Yet the mere thought of Stewart coming home to play is at least possible.

"In the first half we were better and we had opportunities and the goal from Leo, who was fantastic".

Oblak could not prevent Messi from sending Barcelona ahead in the 26th minute, however, with the Argentine picking out the top corner with a quite brilliant free kick.

Messi's first-half free kick decided the match, however, as Barcelona picked up a huge three points.

Gallardo, who played in two World Cups in 1998 and 2002, has said that his nation are behind Brazil, Germany and Spain in the pecking order, but the presence of Messi means that Argentina stand every chance of lifting the trophy.

Atletico Madrid have been in fine form this season, with Simeone's men earmarking this afternoon's match against Barcelona as a must-win.

He believes Griezmann will leave Atletico but will not be moving to the Nou Camp.

Iniesta will undergo tests on a hamstring injury on Monday at the club's training ground, but early reports in the Catalan press suggest he will be sidelined for the next month, ruling him out of the Champions League game against Chelsea on March 14.

"It was hard to get [the win] because they have a great defence". However, defeat has left Barcelona in pole position to clinch the La Liga title this season, with eight points now separating the two sides. "I think we're close because we always compete in the best manner".
