Pennsylvania reports drop in flu cases, 28 deaths

DE public health officials say the death toll from the flu has risen to 18.

According to HCPH, this is the first pediatric death in the county this flu season. In 2009, 15 were reported. Even still, the California Department of Public Health expects several more weeks of flu activity and the mortality rate could continue to climb because it can be days or weeks after the initial infection that complications can set in. No appointments are necessary.

Like in much of the country, the flu hit Pennsylvania hard this season. Last week saw the fewest number of new cases in Blair since the week ending January 20.

The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department says 13 people have died in the county as a result of the flu - one more than last week. All but one had an underlying health condition.

Health experts at Coliseum Medical Centers say they've seen changes in their facility that indicates fewer people are getting sick right here in middle Georgia. "Hopefully, the worst is past us".
