However, the Kodencheri Police have arrested seven men in connection to this case and they will be produced before the court today.

After 28-year-old Calicut resident Josna Shibi had to undergo a forced abortion because she was kicked in the stomach allegedly by a local CPI (M) leader, the state police have now arrested seven CPI (M) activists in the case.

As per police, the assault was a result of a land dispute between neighbours.

The woman, also a mother to a five-year-old son, said after she saw her husband being beaten up by two men, she immediately came out of her house to intervene in the tussle.

The incident is said to have taken place in the coastal city of Kozhikode in Kerala. During the fight, she was allegedly kicked in the stomach by one of the assaulters, who was a local communist leader. The four-month pregnant woman was taken to a hospital, where she had to undergo an abortion as her placenta was damaged. "I had filed a complaint at the police station regarding the matter", she said.

According to the woman, the CPM activists had also threatened to chop off the legs of her husband, if she did not withdraw the complaint. The main culprit in the case is still roaming free. Now, CPM leaders are asking me to exclude Thamby from my complaint and they will arrange the arrest of others. Shibu was quoted as saying by Times Now.

Prajeesh Gopalan, a CPM member, was arrested after the incident but the police were hesitant to nab the rest.

Sibi and Josna had launched a sit-in protest in front of the station on Tuesday, claiming police inaction in tracing the attackers.
