Google launches its own version of Snapchat Stories


While the Gmail version of Stories has yet to debut, you can try out the search results version of its Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) Stories for yourself today.

Created to make visual storytelling easier on mobile devices, AMP stories provides publishers with templates that can be adapted according to brand and style needs, Galfi added.

The Developer preview for AMP stories is starting today with tutorials and documentation available for publishers to begin using. That's where AMP stories sets itself apart.

Following in the footsteps of Instagram, Snapchat, and others, Google now allows users to tap through bite-size news stories within its search results page.

In a separate news, Google is also testing a new Reply app that will automatically generate smart replies for all the apps in notification.

Of course, Google is also planning to integrate AMP for email with its own Gmail service, something that should happen later this year, Sahney said.

Google's project is geared at companies who rely on email, such as newsletters, to provide real-time information to their subscribers. Today Google said AMP is merely meant to make the mobile web more accessible to developers, claiming small publishers face challenges in building high-performance content.

"With AMP for email, information in email messages can be dynamic, kept up-to-date and made actionable", Google AMP project engineering lead Malte Ubl said in a blog post. Vox, unsurprisingly, used it for explainers, among other things, and Mashable probably went further than most by using video, sound and animations across most of its stories.

Interacting with email could be noticeably different within a few months. With AMP for Email, you'll be able to quickly take actions like submit an RSVP to an event, schedule an appointment, or fill out a questionnaire right from the email message. But, Google says ads will soon be supported. Companies developing features for AMP for Email include Pinterest,, and Doodle. One of the key benefits of AMP for email will be that content within an email can be updated, and recipients will be able to browse email content much like they would a web page.
