HTC announces Vive Pro with increased resolution and built-in headphones

According to a leaked press release, the new HTC Vive Pro virtual reality headset will feature two OLED displays that are capable of displaying 2880 x 1600 pixel images spread over both eyes.

HTC's Vive Pro is also backwards compatible with both 1.0 and 2.0 SteamVR tracking, and you can use up to four base stations for room tracking on the Vive Pro. One of the complaints of the original Vive was that it was hard to adjust and heavy, and you had to plug in headphones, creating another cable dangling to potentially upset your VR experience. The Pro features integrated headphones with a built-in amplifier, dual microphones featuring active noise cancellation, and dual front-facing cameras.

Almost two years after the launch of the HTC Vive virtual reality system, its creators have finally revealed a hardware revision for the headset: the HTC Vive Pro.

Perhaps as a result of that cooperation, HTC also released a version of its Vive Video app for Daydream Monday, allowing users of Google's Daydream VR headset to browse Vimeo videos in VR as well. It's a separate accessory to enable fully wireless VR, with interference-free 60GHz communication. The adaptor will ship worldwide in Q3.

Frank Beamer to be inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame
Beamer led Virginia Tech for almost three decades, winning 280 games in his coaching career, which ranks sixth in FBS history. Taylor was a key member of the Huskers' dominate run under Tom Osborne that ended with national titles in 1994-95 and 1997.

The new model, which sits above the current Vive already available on the market, will feature a greatly improved resolution and high-res audio support. "Wireless VR has been on almost every VR user's wish list since the technology was unveiled", Frank Soqui, GM of the virtual reality group at Intel, said in a statement. Could HTC Vive make a move into the world of 4K resolution?

Considered the largest upgrade to the Viveport platform since launch, Viveport VR will take the traditional 2D catalog and show it off will immersive and interactive previews.

There's no talk about pricing right now, but HTC promises there will be a head-mounted display (HMD) replacement plan for current Vive owners later this quarter.

As is customary for the event, videogame announcements will be few and far between as a lot of the focus is on hardware and that's no exception when it comes to HTC Vive.
