Acer announces Swift 7 at CES 2018, world's thinnest laptop

Even the 2017 model, which we reviewed a year ago, was a whole millimetre thicker - and while that might not sound like much, the 2018 Swift 7 (codename "SF714-51T") is remarkably slender.

Acer used its pre-CES 2018 event to reveal its latest PCs and related hardware. The Swift 7 will debut in March for $1699, while the new Nitro 5 notebooks will appear in May with a starting price of $799. The company has unveiled three updated versions of its laptops at CES, one of which, the Acer Swift 7, is claimed to be the thinnest computer in the world. Its new high-resolution display has been upgraded to 14-inches, and sports a Full HD IPS display with Acer Color Intelligence for lifelike clarity at every angle, as well as a Corning Gorilla Glass NBT touchscreen and touchpad.

So if you're looking to buy the thinnest laptop in the world, you should know there's a new candidate in town that will be available in United States stores around March.

The 2018 Acer Swift 7 slims down an already slender and impressive laptop, adding 4G connectivity, more power and a keyboard backlight to improve over its predecessor.

The notebook now has built-in 4G LTE for those seeking always-on connectivity, thanks to an antenna that's built directly into the aluminium unibody. In the memory department, the laptop offers 8 GB of LPDDR3 memory and 256 GB of PCIe SSD storage. Casual gamers looking for a laptop at the cheaper end of the scale might want to check out the updated Nitro 5. Notably, the Chromebook 11 has two USB Type-C ports and will fully support the Google Play store at launch. With AMD-powered graphics and a Ryzen processor, it'll be interesting to see how the laptop fares against its rivals when it comes to performance and battery life. "At 0.4" (9 mm) thin, it's certainly a slim package, yet it still manages to house one of Intel's seventh-generation Core i7 processors and a battery that'll keep the machine going for a purported 10 hours. It is backed by up to 32GB of RAM, and coupled up to 512GB SATA SSD. The device is only 8.89 mm thin which makes it the world's thinnest laptop.
