Liquidation sales at closing Macy's stores will begin as soon as January 8, while Sears will start liquidating stores as soon as January 12.

Sears Holding, the parent company of both retailers, made the announcement Thursday.

An additional 103 Sears and KMart stores will close in the next several months, Sears Holdings announced Thursday.

It acquired Kmart in 2003 and combined the two stores under Sears Holdings two years later. Sears will shutter their location at Prices Corner in early April.

In the NY area, the Sears located in Hicksville, on Long Island, is expected to close, as well as one in Toms River, New Jersey.

That includes 5 ticket holders in Iowa, New Hampshire and New Jersey who matched 5 numbers for $1 million. The victor of the Mega Millions jackpot could take home a $361 million annuity, or $225 million in cash.

The company said the closures are part of an ongoing effort to "right size" its store footprint.

Sears declined to say how many employees would be affected by the closures, but noted that most of the jobs are part-time positions and eligible workers will receive severance.

The company also announced that 39 Sears stores will close.

In 2006 the company operated more than 3,000 stores in the US and a few hundred in Canada.
