Temperatures in Boston are expected to peak in the low 40s Friday afternoon, and remain in the 30s through Sunday.

As of 11 a.m. Thursday, a winter weather advisory has been issued for parts of Louisiana, Southern Mississippi, and Central Georgia.

Some wind accompanied by rain or more accumulating snow is possible Monday night into Tuesday, the weather service said.

Periods of snow or rain mixed with snow could bring up to 1 inch of snow to Dawson County. That is why it's possible some snowflakes survive down into the above-freezing air to mix with the rain at times, but no accumulation is expected south of 85.

"The chart gives you what our probability of snow is within a certain range, and it's updated regularly", Hawley says.

Still, Georgia road crews spread a mixture known as brine on bridges and overpasses to "pre-treat" the roadways in case snow or ice does coat them.

The weather service forecasts Friday's high at 40 degrees, followed by an overnight low of 27. Check to freezing temperatures.

There may be a few hours before sunrise Friday where the cold air and moisture overlap to produce light snow showers, especially south of I-10.

However, the majority of the region will see a cold rain.

In a forecast discussion, the weather service said a coastal storm system that had been expected to remain far offshore Friday night into Saturday afternoon "is showing better organization today and also a track closer to the coast". Some areas could receive a small amount of snow accumulation - between half an inch to one inch - depending on conditions.

Butts County is not included in the advisory, but residents who may be traveling north on Friday should use caution.
