Years later, Manushi Chillar from India becomes Miss World


Manushi, whose family belongs to Haryana and lives in New Delhi, is pursuing her MBBS degree from the Bhagat Phool Singh Government Medical College for Women in Khanpur Kalan village in Sonepat. She is the first Indian woman to bag the title after Priyanka Chopra won the pageant in 2000.

Congress leader Shashi Tharoor appears to have landed in hot water for his tweets on demonetisation that associated the name of Miss World 2017 Manushi Chhillar to rupee coins.

The 21-year-old beauty was crowed Miss World 2017 at a glittering ceremony in the seaside resort city of Sanya in China on Saturday evening. She went on to pick the "Miss Haryana" title in April this year followed by the coveted Femina Miss India title in June this year.

"Best wishes to Manushi Chhillar for winning the Miss World title".

The finalists were declared on their official Facebook and Twitter handles.

Stephanie Hill of England and Andrea Meza of Mexico finished as runners-up. "A mother deserves that the most". The coveted crown on the head of the victor hoisted by tradition, the victor of the previous contest Stephanie Del Valle from Puerto Rico.

According to Chhillar's profile on the Miss World website, she aims to be a cardiac surgeon and wants to open a chain of non-profitable hospitals based in rural areas.
